In celebration of African American History Month, a special Know the Signs event presented by The Love Program and DBH's African American Awareness Subcommittee was held on Feb. 17 in San Bernardino. The event featured a presentation by Marriage and Family Therapist Myesha Dunn; a panel discussion on bipolar disorder within African American communities that included DBH's Nurse Manager Tricina Edwards; a spoken word message and remarks by Assembly member James Ramos. DBH's Office of Equity and Inclusion played a large role in the event and provided resources, along with other mental health providers.
The purpose of the event was to further the understanding of the African American culture through education and collaboration, and to promote mental health awareness. The event was also an opportunity to remember and recognize the many achievements and contributions of African Americans to our nation.
