In partnership with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and San Bernardino County Coalition Against Sexual Exploitation, DBH participated in a Human Trafficking Awareness Walk in Rancho Cucamonga on Jan. 21.

The event featured a community resource fair, opening remarks from representatives of San Bernardino County including Sheriff Shannon Dicus and District Attorney Jason Anderson. California Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes also spoke at the event.

During the walk, participants held signs and chanted as they walked to four corners of an intersection where many drivers honked in agreement with the cause.

DBH's Public Relations and Outreach team provided general behavioral health resources while in attendance of the event in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

The recent tragic shooting in Monterey Park has impacted many lives and the department wants to remind our San Bernardino County family that tragedies, such as this, may trigger or increase feelings of anxiety, sadness, fear, anger and painful memories for people who have been impacted by trauma.

Coping strategies to help get through such tragedies include:
  • Recognize and acknowledge the feelings one is experiencing is normal;
  • Find healthy ways to cope with distress that allow the mind to focus on things other than distressing memories such as engaging in activities that you enjoy or that bring you peace;
  • Engage in contemplative activities like reading, walking, or interacting with one’s faith-based community;
  • Significantly reduce exposure to media including television, radio and social media;
  • Be in the company of those you love and who support you;
  • Use your support system and don’t be afraid to reach out.
